~Lesson 3~
Public Art: Making Art for Everyone
LESSON
RATIONALE:
Bridging from the previous lesson on billboards, which they will be continuing
this week, students will be introduced the idea of public art. Relating to
the community, it is important to be aware of how art affects people in the
community when it is displayed in a public place. How does it change that
space and environment? What is the new meaning of the art depending on where
it was displayed? Students will look at Claus Oldenburg and his large sized
replications of objects to illustrate the idea of public art. By making their
own piece of public art to put in their community, students will understand
how art and billboards can add to parts of the community.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
*** Students will learn about public art, and each create a piece for the class sculpture garden. They will be looking at the work of Claus Oldenburg and Christo as examples
